Synopsis
The guild has forty members, one gas kiln, and a waiting list. The film is about the kiln, and therefore about everything else.
Made for the guild's fortieth anniversary and its grant renewal, Hands in the Clay was shot across six studio sessions and one firing that ran overnight.
We wanted the sound of the room as much as the picture, so the mix keeps the wheels, the kiln and the kettle in it.
Our role
- Director and camera
- Six studio sessions, available light, plus a slider pass on the wheel work.
- Sound and mix
- Room tone recorded separately and kept forward in the final mix.
- Editing
- Fine cut agreed in one viewing session with the guild committee.
- Stills
- A photography package delivered alongside the film for print use.
